Mountain Railways

There is a whole range of mountain railways and other modes of transport on offer in Beatenberg.

Gruppenumlaufbahn Beatenberg-Niederhorn

Reach Beatenberg’s Logenplatz in just a few minutes! The Niederhorn is Beatenberg’s very own mountain. With the Gruppenumlaufbahn Beatenberg-Niederhorn, you can reach the summit at almost 2,000 metres above sea level without even getting out of breath. You can look onto the imposing Berner Alps and enjoy a wonderful view of the Berner Oberland lakes. The Niederhorn isn’t just about glorious views: you can choose from a range of walks, wildlife watching, Alpine orienteering or a rapid descent into the valley on a Trotti bike.

In bad or stormy weather, amenities may be closed or limited. Extra trips and evening trips on request.

Beatenbucht – Beatenberg Funicular

The funicular connects Beatenbucht am Thunersee with Beatenberg. If you like, you can change at the mountain station to take the Gruppenumlaufbahn to the Niederhorn. If you’d like to take a boat trip from Beatenberg, it’s only 10-minute trip to the Lake Thunersee jetty by funicular.

Postal Coach

Hourly bus connection between Beatenberg and Interlaken West. There are national and international train connections from Interlaken.

You can use your Beatenberg guest card to travel for free between Interlaken West and Beatenberg Station, and between Interlaken West and Habkern.

Bus (Verkehrsbetriebe STI AG)

The STI 21 line provides a connection between Thun and Interlaken on the right side of Lake Thunersee. The 21 bus travels from Thun Station via Oberhofen, Beatenbucht, Sundlauenen and Interlaken West to Interlaken Ost.

What about a round trip? Take the cable railway from Beatenberg to Beatenbucht, travel by bus to Interlaken and take the postal coach back to Beatenberg. Sure to excite young and old alike!

Did you know that Beatenberg in Sundlauenen has its own boat jetty? You can combine your round trip with a boat trip or walk.

The Beatenberg district of Sundlauenen can be easily reached by public transport thanks to the 21 bus.

A boat trip on Lake Thunersee and Lake Brienzersee is one of the most beautiful experiences our holiday region has to offer. When the paddle steamer, built in 1914, starts ploughing through the blue-green water of Lake Brienzersee, you forget about everyday life. Feel the wind in your hair as you lose yourself in the rhythmic motions of the boat and the water.

You can take the cable railway from Beatenberg to Beatenbucht to get to the jetty in Sundlauenen. A trip to the Niederhorn, Beatenberg’s own mountain, or a visit to the Beatushöhlen Caves can easily be combined with a boat trip on Lake Thunersee.

Ski Lift

Niederhorn Ski Lift

A T-bar lift will bring experienced skiers and snowboarders from Vorsass (Niederhornbahn mid station) to the Niederhorn.

Hohwald Ski Lift

The Hohwald ski area is one of the most family-friendly ski areas in the Berner Oberland. This small but sweet ski area with a T-bar lift and two children’s lifts has three safe pistes from easy to medium difficulties and car parks at the Hohwald ski lift and the Waldegg information pavilion. From the Waldegg car park (bus stop), you can take the free ski bus up to the skiing area.

Protect the forest and animals!

The forests in and around Beatenberg have a range of protective functions. Unfortunately, these have been somewhat damaged. Many wild animals have to fight for their lives in the harsh mountain winter. Skiing in the forests means additional challenges, and is therefore not permitted. We ask that guests observe signs and refrain from skiing, sledding and walking in the forests outside the designated areas.
